Demostrations

Adagio by Carl Reinecke – Piano

One of the central characteristics of Romanticism in music is an emphasis on individualism and, with this, a freedom to express the inner world of the emotions.

The piano enabled the composer and performer to realise this expressive freedom in a way that was seen as perfectly embodying Romantic ideals.

Consolation No.1 by Franz Liszt – Piano

The Consolations are composed by Liszt that consist a set of six solo piano works which take the musical style of Nocturnes with each having its own distinctive style.

Consolation No.1 is only 25 measures long, all parts of the chords in this piece are important, but a better sound quality can be obtained by voicing the outer parts more intensely. The melody of this piece is meant to be brought out using arm weight while keeping the accompaniment chords soft but expressive.
